Last night my son Gabe was having some trouble getting to sleep. And as it turns out staying asleep. Even when I went to bed at 11pm he was still tossing about.
Then around 4:30am I heard some rustling, I actually thought one of my boys was having a nightmare. No, as it turns out Gabe and his 3 year old brother Nate were having breakfast on the floor of Gabe’s room. And it was of course spilled all over.
As you can imagine I was not pleased. I warned them both that their new foster parents would not look kindly on such behavior.
I separated them, and tried (and tried) to get back to sleep. Somehow those last few hours (and minutes) of sleep are always the most important.
Yes, much cuter in normal daylight hours.
I related the story to one of morning clients (who is not currently a parent) and his assessment of the situation was “ Aw, how adorable…”. Yeah, sleep deprivation is just f’ing precious. A Kodak moment to be sure.
So needless to say today I am not running on a full tank. I would like to do nothing more than nap the day away and be a poster child for bed sores.
But there is a business to run, a family to feed, bills to pay and those weights won’t lift themselves.
So I am going to suck it up. Do my work, (because my boss can be a real a-hole) and I am going to work out.
Will I break any personal records today- uh, no. But 90% of fitness is just showing up. Even if I have the worst workout of my life it will still be better than the no workout I would have on my couch.
So today’s workout might just suck, but it will get done because I am committed and I have a goal.
Don’t let anything stand in the way of your goal. Be persistent and absolutely ruthless in the pursuit of your goals whatever they may be.
Caffeine helps.
