My Top 3 Bad Habits

Friday, May 14th, 2010

I have never said I was perfect.  Oh wait – yeah I have.

Ok, I have never said I was better than anyone else.  Oh… actually I’ve done that too.

Hmmm…

How about this:  when I said or implied either of the above things I was lying my ass off.  Ok, there we go-  that sounds about right.

Lindsay Lohan Some people truly believe that because I am a trainer and pretty damn good at my job that I must always be perfect.  While it is true that I do not drink, smoke or gamble, I am not exactly Amish either.

A Worthy Cause…

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

A good friend of mine and client Melinda Crown is helping to organize and amazing event.  It is called “Hold ‘em For the Homeless” – a Celebrity Poker Tournament and Live Auction to benefit the Malibu House of Hope (MHOH).

Malibu House of Hope is a non-profit organization that provides housing, food, social work, schooling and job training for homeless children and young adults, helping the hopeless and the too-often overlooked to transform their lives and give them the second chance they desperately need and deserve.  The National Coalition for the Homeless reports that there are 1.35 million children who are homeless on any given night in this country, with a majority of them runaways, escaping extremely abusive home environments.  The mission of MHOH is to make sure that no child is left outside.

Heart Warming News

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Did you ever have one of those days where everything went wrong?  From beginning to end, absolutely nothing went your way?  Those days seem to occur all to frequently.

Well yesterday was the exact OPPOSITE of that.

But let me start at what SHOULD have been the beginning of Gabe’s operation ordeal, last Friday.

(NOTE:  For those who missed the original posts, catch up by first reading Gabriel’s Heart, and then Put On Hold.)

Worst. Friday. Ever.

Put On Hold…

Friday, December 4th, 2009

First let me say thank you to all who have emailed, posted comments and called with your love and support.  I cannot express how much it means to myself and Denyse.  The outpour of support was truly overwhelming, so I thank you from the bottom of my (our) heart(s).  I would reply to each of you to thank you individually, but as you probably know I am far to lazy for that :)

But here is the current deal…

It has been an extremely aggravating morning.

Gabriel’s Heart

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

Tomorrow, December 4th, 2009 my son Gabriel Thomas Carter, age 7, goes in for an heart operation.  But before I go into whats and whys,  let me tell you about Gabe.

Gabe, in the Beginning…

October 8th, 2002 was the greatest day of my life.  It was the day I officially met my son Gabe for the first time outside of an ultrasound.    (I am also fortunate to have gotten a repeat of that day 3 years later when I met my second son, Nate, but I’ll save that for another story.)

189 Reps of “ Why are you so old?”

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

I have been working out with Norm for years now.  7 years actually.  I never really cared that he was old until last week.  That was the first time his age affected me directly

Let me explain.

normbox Last week Norm turned 63.

He looks WAY  better than any 63 year old I have ever met.   (He calls himself my geriatric poster child.) But as Norm has a fair bit of crazy knocking around in his 63 year old melon he does not think he looks as good as he really does.

Goodbye Dom DeLuise -RIP

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

On May 4th, 2009 funny man Dom DeLuise passed away.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.  While I did not know him personally, I did have the privilege of meeting him in the summer of 1983, when I was 12 years old.

My grandparents were taking me on a trip to New York, Washington DC and then to Arizona where they were filming Cannonball Run II. (My grandfather was buddies with Sammy Davis Jr. who was also in the movie, but that is another story)

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas (at Carter Fitness)

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the gym
Not a carb was found lurking near fit, plump or slim.
The dumbbells were stacked on the racks with great care
Just waiting for clients to pick up a pair.

The trainers all cautioned them to be committed
No visions of sugarplums would be permitted.
And Josh, the big boss man, reminded them all
Carter Fitness is there, if from your diet you fall.

When out in the parking lot arose such a clatter
Josh sprinted outside to see what was the matter.
When what to his eyes should emerge on the scene
But a red suited man with no fitness regime.

Happy Father’s Day

Saturday, June 14th, 2008

I wanted to wish all the fathers out there a very happy Father’s Day. And especially to my father,Ted Carter who taught me (among other things) happiness in life is not found in the money or possessions you have, but in the people that you love and people who love you.

To my Dad, Happy Fathers Day.
