Static Shock

Friday, May 14th, 2010

Here is a workout we did with our bootcamp the other day.  It’s a very basic but ass-kicking bodyweight workout that should do you in in only 20-25 minutes (plus you can do it about anywhere).  It involves static contractions coupled with similar dynamic moves.  Check out the video…

Here it is, for 5 total rounds…

A1) Plank x 60 secs
A2) Toe Touches x 10 reps
B1) Wall Squat x 60 secs
B2) Jump Squats x 10 Reps
C1) Push Ups Planks x 60 secs
C2) Push Ups x 10 Reps

End of the Road

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

Life is funny thing.  It is full of ups and downs, in and outs.  And when you least expect it, you get a smack in the face- a wake up call.

Two days ago I got my smack:  An epiphany if you will.

end-of-the-road1So here it is…

I have been lifting for over twenty years.  And for the most part they have been good to me, but it is time for a change.  And that is why this is a decision I do not take lightly.

Ho Ho Hold on a Minute…

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

Let me ask you, have you recently been mistaken for Santa (or Mrs.) Claus?

1222santa-on-the-scaleAre random kids jumping on your lap, telling you what they want for Christmas and that the have “good” all year?

Do people ask you where you parked your sleigh?

Are you shoes caked with crusty reindeer poop?

Are elves following you?

Are you unusually jolly?

When you laugh does anyone point and say “Hey look, a bowl full of jelly!”?

Yeah, there’s a lot of that going around this time of year.  And I can help you avoid further embarrassment and confusion.

Thanksgiving UN-stuffing

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

The great day of eating yourself sleepy, giving thanks for all our blessing is nearly upon us.  If you recall, last year I adopted a particular Thanksgiving eating strategy that I think I will make a tradition.  You can re-check out that article here:  Happy Thanksgiving: "F" Moderation .  Read it, then come back here…

Thanksgiving at my house is slightly more civilized,
I mean we do not allow babies at the table.

But before you drown yourself in gravy, bury your self in mashed potatoes and  pound down any pie I suggest you earn it. Yes,  you must *EARN* that cheat.

I’m Not Above Bribery

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

There are 2 things you should know about me:

1) I Hate Losing.

2) I’m Not Above Bribery.

Based upon some recent events these are 2 very important facts to keep in mind.  So let me catch you up.

Earlier this week I had a conversation with a good friend of mine named Brett Riesenhuber.  Brett lives in Northern California, and like me he owns a high end personal training studio (called Prime Physique) and runs several bootcamps.  Interestingly, our “significant others” have the same name too.

I wanted to tell you first ( but I blew it)

Monday, August 3rd, 2009

I can’t believe myself sometimes. I sent this info out to 3 other email lists, and even posted it all over CraigsList, but I forgot to send it out to my own list- and I meant to send it to you FIRST!!!

Ooops.

So for that I am sorry, (so I have a special offer at the bottom as an apology. Just keep reading or scroll to the bottom) ,

And now for the BIG NEWS…

I have launched a new bootcamp in Chatsworth that is unlike anything you have seen – no joke.  It is called THE FIT BODY BOOT CAMP.

Cardio Wins the Race

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I am a big enough man (literally and figuratively) to say when I have been proven wrong.

As most of you know I am was not a huge fan of steady state cardio for fat loss. I had always preferred using shorter intense bouts of training.

Well in the April issue of the The Stanford Journal of Metabolism there was a massive study (almost 4000 participants) comparing the fat loss effects from both steady state cardio and resistance training.

‘Twas The Night Before Christmas (at Carter Fitness)

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all through the gym
Not a carb was found lurking near fit, plump or slim.
The dumbbells were stacked on the racks with great care
Just waiting for clients to pick up a pair.

The trainers all cautioned them to be committed
No visions of sugarplums would be permitted.
And Josh, the big boss man, reminded them all
Carter Fitness is there, if from your diet you fall.

When out in the parking lot arose such a clatter
Josh sprinted outside to see what was the matter.
When what to his eyes should emerge on the scene
But a red suited man with no fitness regime.

Voter Bonus

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

In 1976 I was in kindergarten. It was the first election I can distinctly remember.

Josh in 1975, first day of Kindergarten

My school had set up a mock election, and all the classes got to vote. I of course voted for Carter.  It made sense to vote for Carter, he had to be the best guy as we shared a last name.  Perfectly good reasoning for a 5 year old.

I don’t remember who won in the school’s election, but I do know who won the real one.
