2 Inspirational Stories of Incredible Fat Loss

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

(Reposted from a recent email.)

I received 2 incredible emails from clients (just like you) who had lost so much weight they could not weight (bad pun) to share the amazing news. The results are so outstanding that I thought I would share them with you.

The first one actually came via Facebook, but you know what I mean. It is from my “Awesome” client Marlene.  She has now dropped an incredible 22 pounds so far, and the pants she bought just 2 months ago are now her “fat pants’”.

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011

I got an email from a client yesterday and she TOTALLY BUSTED me!  Here is the simple  email she sent:

Dear Josh,

Explain:

Your curious client,
XXXXXXX

Yup,  busted. (But the more important question is what was SHE doing near a McDonalds?)

OK, here is the deal:  I needed me some Big Macs.

Just kidding.

I’ll get to my actual reason for being at the golden aches in a second, but the more important point here is that I am not perfect.

SHOCKER!

What’s your excuse? (a brief note to whiners)

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

stop-making-excusesThis post is meant as a wake up call for all those who are making excuse for not working out. (If this does not apply to you as you are kicking ass daily then you rock, but read it anyway.)

I have a client named Sam. He is in his late 50’s and has been working out for around 2 ½ months. In that time he last lost over 40 pounds and hasn’t looked or felt so good in years (his words.)

That is the good news. But…

Motivational Tactics

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Watch out, here comes another cliche:

Motivation is one of the keys to success.

Maybe it’s cliche because its true – whatever. Without motivation we would never get anything done. In the past, my motivation (in regards to fitness) was very basic: to get stronger and leaner. Most definitely vanity based- and there is nothing wrong with that. Now my motivation is dictated by another more important driving force. While there is still a vanity component, my main motivation is my kids. I plan on being around a while. I want be sure to see them graduate high school (or get paroled, which ever comes first) get married and have kids.

The Bottom Line

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

I consult with clients all the time. The vast majority come to me to lose bodyfat. When I consult with a client I often times have to break it down to the bottom line, and here it is so brace yourself: You do not get to eat the way you do now anymore. The same is true for exercising. You do not get to exercise (or not exercise) the way you do now. That is all done –over. Because here is the thing- if you could eat the way you eat now AND have the body you want (with the health you want) you already would. The way you eat now has given you the body you have now. The way you workout now has given you the body you have now. If you want your body to change, you need to change both your nutrition and exercise programs. And That is not always fun and can be daunting but it is the absolute truth. I would love to eat peanut butter while sitting on my couch watching my HDTV all day long, but that just is not in the cards for me. There are those genetically gifted people out there who can seemingly eat what they want and still look great, but guess what? NOT YOU. Just so we are clear – not me either. And that my friends, is the bottom line.

What is Bad Nutrition

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

A colleague of mine once said you cannot “out train” bad nutrition.  Truer words were never spoken, although that has not stopped some clients from trying.  It has always amazed me when certain clients would hire me to help them transform their bodies, yet not follow the nutritional advice.   A hard workout does not give you license to eat whatever you want.  Quite the opposite – it should give you the motivation you need to feed your body the quality nutrition it deserves.

A Calorie by Any Other Name…

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

May years ago I had a discussion with a personal trainer colleague of mine. I was young and hungry, and he was definitely more established than I at the time. He had some really nice training programs that yielded some decent results. He was also good looking, which helps when you are a trainer, and he was exceptionally personable. The thing was he didn’t know squat when it came to nutrition. His basic philosophy was “calories in , calories out.” That is the basic methodology of many trainers and nutrition centers like Weight Watchers etc. It can work, to a point, but back to my story. He was saying that basically his clients can eat whatever they want, so long as the they burned more calories than they took in. He did not care what the macronutrient ratios were, just the caloric total. Ok…. So I gave him a challenge. Pick any 2 clients, put them on a 2000 calorie diet. One client can only eat Frosted Flakes. The other client could only eat chicken breasts and broccoli (not nutritionally balanced, but you get the point). Put them on the same training program and see who loses the most fat after 4 weeks. Not surprisingly he did not take the challenge. He insisted that it was all math, and that so long as the calories coming in were less than the calories being expended, the client would lose weight. I knew I would never change his mind, so I left it at that.
