6 Stupid Things People Believe (Do you?)

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Sometimes smart people do stupid things, so don’t fall for these stupid  myths

1.  "Doing weights will bulk me up."
Truth: Muscle is denser than fat and thus takes up less room, so two people who weigh the same can look much different if one has a higher ratio of lean muscle mass to fat.  Check out this example:  Same women, same weight…

See the difference?

Also, the ONLY way to ever bulk up, is to eat more calories than what you burn off…This makes you gain weight mostly as FAT!

Walking is for Suckers

Monday, January 10th, 2011

It happens to me every week.  Without fail I get numerous emails and new clients who come to me and are utterly confused about their lack of progress.

They say essentially the same thing:  “I walk on my treadmill every day for 45 minutes and yet I am not losing any weight.”

or…

“But I take my dog for a walk around my neighborhood every day…”

My answer is more or less always the same : “ That’s because walking is for suckers.”

Walking is great for getting you from here to there, but for fat loss it is a giant waste of time.

I Don’t Know Who This Is, but I’m Impressed

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I ran across this video on the internet the other day.  I don’t know who he is, how he worked out or what he ate, but he took a picture of himself everyday for a year.  Here is the first and last shots…

Pretty damn cool, but to see the transformation in action watch the video below.  You’ll notice it did not take him a full year to get rock hard abs.

Tough to Swallow

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

WARNING:  The following post is a bit on the rant side.

I am  going to say something that is going to piss a lot of people off. And I’ll probably get tons of emails, but I don’t care.  I am passionate about this.

Here it is:  Gastric bypass is a tool of the weak.

Ok, maybe not all the time, but *WAY* too much of the time.  I will concede that there are people out there that have two options; either go under the knife or under the ground. Those people are not as plentiful as some would have you believe.

Every Little Bit…

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I can separate all things in life into three basic categories.

There are some things in life where more is better: Money, peanut butter and vacation come to mind.

More please

For some things in life less is better: Taxes, commercials, Lifetime Original movies.

And yet for other things better is better. The most important two on that list: sex and working out.

One thing that I have found that holds true for all three categories is that every little bit counts.

What Was I Thinking? – RGT

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Note: It has been a while since I have posted an actual workout. Lest you all think I have lost my workout chops and am now nothing more than an amazingly clever and incredibly entertaining writer, I thought I would give you and idea of what I have been up to workout wise. Enjoy.

I should just start off by saying that I wasn’t thinking, not really.  It just seemed like a good idea at the time, and there was no other reason- good, bad or as it turns out, evil.

I am talking about my most recent workouts.

Posterior Change

Friday, August 10th, 2007

My current split has me working the posterior chain on Tuesdays.  Of late I have been trying to lean out and thus using circuits of big moves to kick my own ass.  It has been working quit well.  Like you I am often pressed for time.  This past Tuesday was a perfect example. I only had about 30 minutes to workout – start to finish including warm ups.  Here is what I did:

4 x through in circuit fashion – no rest between exercises. 60-120 secs rest between circuits.
