Walking is for Suckers

Monday, January 10th, 2011

It happens to me every week.  Without fail I get numerous emails and new clients who come to me and are utterly confused about their lack of progress.

They say essentially the same thing:  “I walk on my treadmill every day for 45 minutes and yet I am not losing any weight.”

or…

“But I take my dog for a walk around my neighborhood every day…”

My answer is more or less always the same : “ That’s because walking is for suckers.”

Walking is great for getting you from here to there, but for fat loss it is a giant waste of time.

Die Fat or Get Tough

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

I like to be direct.  In all likelihood if you ask my opinion you’ll get it.  I find that it is just MUCH easier to get my point across if I do not have to soften it up with fluffy bullsh*t.  I also find it refreshing when people are direct with me.  Even if I do not like the message, at least they have the guts to be direct.  (then I punch them)

SarcasmMeter I also pepper my directness with a hefty dose of sarcasm.  Many have told me that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.  I might argue that point, but I also argue that it is also the funniest.  So funny, but direct.

It’s the Metabolism Stupid

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

Big article, sorry.  I’ll use less words next time.

metabolism Too many trainees I see miss the forest for the trees. They are approaching their fat loss programs all wrong, and stagnating as a result.  A big thanks goes to the mainstream media for all the crap advice on ”cardio” being best for fat loss, ,ore on that in a minute.

Assuming the goal is fat loss, then metabolic optimization should be our primary focus.  Some of you might be shocked by my use of big words in that last sentence, so let me explain.

100 Reps, 4 Months & 52 Pounds

Monday, November 9th, 2009

John started on June 1st, 2009 at Carter Fitness.  As he has been Mr. Consistency (he never misses a session)  I had quite honestly completely forgotten what he looked like when he walked though my doors 4 months ago.

Then today John emailed me this pic to remind me:

big-john
Big John

I remember John told me on day 1 he was committed.  But again to be honest I hear that a lot.

But as it turns out “committed” is an understatement.

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I have been teasing this for a few weeks, but the 6 Week Body Transformation Program is now ready – we start Monday.

For those who missed it, here is a brief recap…

As some of you know, I was recently hired by a major fitness company to transform the bodies of 15 participants.  Then the results from this fat loss program are being used in a national ad campaign.  This major fitness company needed rapid and drastic fat loss in only  6 weeks, so they came to me.

Creating a fat loss cardio program & keeping goldfish alive.

A couple of months ago someone at my house had the bright idea of buying some goldfish.  Ok, so off to the pet store we went. Each of my sons got to choose which fish he wanted from the thousands of feeder goldfish.  Great, I thought, each fish was only 28 cents. Somehow, by the time we got out of there I had spent $100 on two 28 cent goldfish. What?  Yes, $100.
