Are You As Strong As A 2nd Grader?

Friday, July 30th, 2010

Here is my son Gabriel.  He is 7 years old and tips the scale at a whopping 50 pounds.  Below is a photo I snapped of Gabe deadlifting 70 lbs.  That’s just shy of 1.5 x his bodyweight.

I know that you think that it is only due to him being gifted with superhuman strength due to his superior genetic line.   Yup, that’s it.

Just kidding.

It is just because kids are (relatively) strong and strength is something we lose as we sit on our fat butts as we get older.

Heart Warming News

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

Did you ever have one of those days where everything went wrong?  From beginning to end, absolutely nothing went your way?  Those days seem to occur all to frequently.

Well yesterday was the exact OPPOSITE of that.

But let me start at what SHOULD have been the beginning of Gabe’s operation ordeal, last Friday.

(NOTE:  For those who missed the original posts, catch up by first reading Gabriel’s Heart, and then Put On Hold.)

Put On Hold…

Friday, December 4th, 2009

First let me say thank you to all who have emailed, posted comments and called with your love and support.  I cannot express how much it means to myself and Denyse.  The outpour of support was truly overwhelming, so I thank you from the bottom of my (our) heart(s).  I would reply to each of you to thank you individually, but as you probably know I am far to lazy for that :)

It has been an extremely aggravating morning.

Happy Mother’s Day

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Happy Mother’s Day.

To the mothers of sons and to the mothers of daughters. To the mothers of canines, felines, equines and all kinds – this day is for you as well. And let us not forget the mothers to be for your mothering has already begun.

A special thank you for all that you do – and yes we notice even if we don’t say. And though we can never say it enough – from your children everywhere to you, mom – we love you.

I of course have two special mothers to thank. The first is my mother, Linda.

Minivan Madness

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

Minivan Madness and why I will never visit Fresno again.

It is no secret to my family and friends that I do not like to travel.  Especially by car. But we all have families, and with families comes obligations. But with me being me I generally do whatever I can to get out having to drive anywhere.  It is not that I do not like being there, I just hate getting there.

Both my wife and I have family in and around the Fresno Ca. area and this last weekend was my wife Denyse’s sister Amy’s, daughter Emerson’s 2nd birthday party.  Ok, maybe I should have just said my niece’s birthday – whatever.

I Blame My Kids

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

For most things that don’t work out the way we want in life it is easy to blame someone else. For many things I can simply blame my parents. I mean have you seen my nose? I mean come on.

But there is one particular thing that for which I can place the blame squarely on the shoulders of my 2 sons: my inability to sleep in.

I remember fondly the days of sleeping past 9 or even 10 in the morning.  There we occasions I even slept past noon – ah the good ol days.
