Walking is for Suckers

Monday, January 10th, 2011

It happens to me every week.  Without fail I get numerous emails and new clients who come to me and are utterly confused about their lack of progress.

They say essentially the same thing:  “I walk on my treadmill every day for 45 minutes and yet I am not losing any weight.”

or…

“But I take my dog for a walk around my neighborhood every day…”

My answer is more or less always the same : “ That’s because walking is for suckers.”

Walking is great for getting you from here to there, but for fat loss it is a giant waste of time.

Quite Quotable

Kinda like walking on a treadmill :)

Most of the time, when I get quoted it comes back and bites me in the ass.

Things like:  “I’ll have the house clean by the time you get back”

or

“Sure, I’ll keep an eye on the boys boys – no problem.”

Yeah, sometimes being quoted sucks.

But there are others much more profound than myself who are actually worth quoting.

Quotes can serve to inspire and motivate.  To make you move out of your comfort zone and into a personal success zone.

Die on a Treadmill?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

I just saw this video clip and instantly thought of you guys.  It is from an interview Will Smith did while promoting the movie “I am Legend”.

In this clip Will talks has several inspirational points, but the one about the treadmill really caught my attention.  It speaks to the importance of “Mind Set” and believing in oneself.

Die on a treadmill?  Well, sorta.

To find out what he means you must watch the video.

(The whole video is good, but you can fast forward to 4:15 to get to the treadmill part)

Priority Report

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I have spent the past week in beautiful El Dorado Hills, Ca, (just north of Sacramento) sponging off my younger brother Joe.

Joe and his wife Natascha have 2 kids, Anthony and Gavin, that are close enough in age to our 2 kids Gabe & Nate that they get along great even though they do not get to see each other often enough.

Joe & Tash love to cook and entertain, and I love to eat and be entertained so this has really worked out pretty well for me.

Got Time to Waste? Do Cardio!

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Information rules the world. The more information you have the better off you are. But we run into problems when the information we get conflicts. This comes up time and time again in the health & fitness game. High carb, low carb, high reps, low reps, yes cardio, no cardio. And it goes on and on. Well that my friends is why I write these newsletters – to give you the best, most accurate and up to date information possible. You know who I am and where to find me, and hopefully you have come to trust what I tell you. Plus I back up what I say with results. So in this article I will be telling you why standard cardio is a lousy fat loss tool- and why I am right and everyone else is wrong (unless they agree with me :) ).

38 Lard Melting Hours

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, and again and again. Steady state cardio is for suckers. That’s right -  SUCKERS. Ok, so that is a bit of an overstatement but stick with me. First let’s back up a bit before I tell you what a sucker you have been.

As I tell my clients, your training program should be determined by your goal. Not the other way around. So first let’s define your goal. If your goal is being a distance runner of some kind, then steady state cardio work like elongated bouts on a treadmill would have some benefit to you. Have at it, be my guest, better you than me. But let’s be clear- if you are reading this, distance running is not your goal. Fat loss is (at least for most of you).
